Study Programs at Surrey International Institute

Surrey International Institute (SII) is an academic partnership between Dalian University of Finance and Economics and the UK University of Surrey.

Students at the institute can study at either undergraduate or postgraduate level. All courses are taught in English (apart from optional Chinese language study for international students) and at the end of the programme, degrees are awarded from both the University of Surrey and Dalian University of Finance and Economics.  Classes are taught by professors from Dalian University of Finance and Economics and visiting senior lecturers from the University of Surrey.

Both universities rank highly in their respective countries. The University of Surrey ranks 23rd out of 122 UK Universities in the Guardian Newspaper 2008 University league table, while Dalian University of Finance and Economics ranked 74th in Netbig's 2007 ranking of 1200 Chinese universities and colleges.  With the launch of Surrey International Institute, this becomes the third joint venture of this kind in China, along with the University of Nottingham's campus in Ningbo and another joint venture between Liverpool University and Xian University in Suzhou.

The institute began running courses in September 2007 and Chinese in China is helping to recruit students for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes starting September 2008.  It currently has 140 students and plans to expand this to 2000 students over the next 10 years.

The opening of the institute brings new study abroad options to students wanting to study in China. There is now the opportunity to live and study in one of China's best cities whilst earning a degree from a well respected UK university. The opening of the institute was reported by the BBC,the Guardian and Times Newspapers in the UK and in other news media around the world.
