Dalian University of Technology
Amongst the top twenty universities in China and Dalian's premier university, Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a large university with over 30 000 students enrolled. Founded as a prestigious engineering college it is now a key comprehensive university in the north of China. Within China DUT enjoys a good reputation for its style of management, study facilities and setting. It is known for the motto: "Unity, Enterprise, Realism and Originality".
The campus is large, green and shady and has comprehensive modern teaching and scientific research equipment. Facilities include a new library, sports centre, campus supermarket, international hostel and an international class hotel. The university campus is very open, easy to get around and maintains a mix of old and new China. The west gate of the campus is an area with many shops, restaurants (including KFC), web bars and tea houses.
The Chinese department at DUT has 200-300 students each semester with the bulk of students mostly coming from South Korea and Japan and around 20% from Europe and North America. Class sizes average 18 students with a maximum of 22. Many students come for one semester then choose to stay on for a second or third semester.
The university is in the southwestern part of the city, 12km from the city centre. It takes 15 minutes and 25Y by taxi to get to the city centre. Alternatively the buses 406 (1Y) or 504 (2Y) run from the west gate and take 20-25 minutes to get to the city centre.
